History of the Cornerstone
Growth Stock Screen*
James O'Shaughnessy studied 43 years of financial data to
determine which investing strategies performed best and published
his findings in "What Works On Wall Street," 2nd ed. He
called his favorite strategy the "Cornerstone Growth
Strategy." Its performance over 43 years was 18.82% per
year with a minimum holding period of one year. His screen
produced a large number of stocks (50) in an effort to produce
enough holdings on which to run a mutual fund. Individual
investors need not invest in 50 stocks to achieve diversification
and in our implementation section we suggest ways to improve
the results while buying far less than 50 stocks.
