Wal-Mart Expects December
Sales to Rise This Year
12/26/2005
Wal-Mart Inc. expects December 2005 same
store sales to rise 2% to 4%. Only stores which have been
opened for at least a year are included in the forecast. In
November, Wal-Mart's sales increased 4.3%. December's sales
figures will be released on January 5.
Despite the fact that we are now past the
retail Christmas shopping spree, December's sales figures
are far from being final. Sales during this last week of December
accounted for 10% of December retail sales last year according
to ShopperTrak RCT Corp. However, many retail analysts expect
that number to rise to 14% this year. One reason is gift card
sales are not counted as revenue until the gift card is redeemed.
Sales of gift cards were up this year.
Wal-Mart is part of our High-Dividend
