CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June
3, 2004--Rockwell Collins (NYSE:COL) has been selected to
provide the pilot controls for Boeing's new 7E7 Dreamliner
aircraft. This award is in addition to Boeing's previous selection
of Rockwell Collins as provider of display, communication
and surveillance systems and the core network cabinet for
this new aircraft. Rockwell Collins is also assisting Smiths
Aerospace on the development of the common data network that
will be used on the 7E7. The potential value to the company
of the combined 7E7 awards is up to $3.5 billion over the
life of the program.
"Our participation and content continue
to grow on this very important new aircraft program,"
said Rockwell Collins Chairman, President and Chief Executive
Officer Clay Jones. "Having secured a launch customer,
Boeing's enthusiasm about this advanced aircraft grows every
day and we share their excitement."
The pilot controls consist of four major
assemblies: The Control Stand Assembly, Pitch Control Assembly,
Lateral Control Assembly and Yaw Control/Brake Assembly. Each
assembly will be developed using a modular approach for ease
of installation and maintenance. The pilot control package
will be key to meeting the program objective of providing
operators with a look and feel similar to the Boeing 777 aircraft.
The work will be accomplished by Rockwell Collins' Kaiser
Electroprecision business in Irvine, Calif.
"This win is especially gratifying
for us and a real vote of confidence," said Rockwell
Collins Commercial Systems Executive Vice President and Chief
Operating Officer Bob Chiusano. "Boeing's selection of
Rockwell Collins to develop and produce these components speaks
to our abilities as a systems integrator and our leadership
in pilot controls design and manufacturing."
Rockwell Collins was previously awarded
the aircraft's head up and head down display systems, communication
and surveillance systems and core-network cabinet. These include
advanced VHF, HF and satellite communication radios, terrain
awareness warning systems, weather radar, and traffic alert
and collision avoidance systems, which provide pilots with
enhanced situational awareness. As a sub contractor to Smiths
Aerospace, Rockwell Collins will also provide the Ethernet
switches and end systems that make up the common data network
for the aircraft.
In support of Boeing's eEnabled aircraft
strategy, the Rockwell Collins core network cabinet includes
the necessary file servers, routers and avionics interfaces
in a single cabinet, with growth slots for future functionality
enhancements. The core network cabinet also supports the broadband
connectivity capability provided by Connexion by Boeing.
Boeing recently announced the formal launch
of the 7E7 program with the receipt of a firm order for 50
aircraft from ANA (All Nippon Airways). Entry into service
is scheduled for 2008.
