Sigma-Aldrich's Stock Surges 33% Today on Merck Takeover Offer -- Sigma, Up 369% Overall, Is Now a Hold

Merck & Co. (MRK) made an offer to acquire Sigma-Aldrich Corp. (SIAL) for $140 per share. SIAL closed at $136.40 today meaning the stock jumped 33.24% today. We are changing our rating on SIAL from "buy" to "hold" as we await more details on the acquisition.
SIAL is part of our High-Dividend Blue Chip Stock Portfolio. Including reinvestment of dividends, SIAL has thus far produced a total return of 369.6% for this portfolio.
Since inception in 2005, the portfolio has produced a return of 15.28% per year. By comparison, the S&P 500 resulted in a return of 6.97% per year.
