Q: Why don’t you manage other people’s
money?
A: Our specialty is choosing stocks and
funds. By focusing on what we do best, we don’t have to expend our
resources on courting and coddling the super-wealthy. Some people
enjoy doing that, but it’s not for us. Like we were, many people
are lured to the stock brokerage career because they love to analyze
financial instruments. But we found that in reality, the job is
90% marketing, 9% paper-shuffling, and 1% investment analysis. We
quickly left the brokerage business long ago and now choose to focus
on the investment analysis and let others worry about marketing,
shuffling paperwork, and wooing the rich.
